Alt de Comapedrosa (2.942m)

La Massana is dominated by the highest peak in the Principality of Andorra, Comapedrosa, which stands at 2,942 meters. From this giant of stone, the view is spectacular. The first ascent of Comapedrosa dates back to September 22, 1858, and its protagonists were the six members of the Hispano-Andorran commission who at that time were delimiting the border between the two countries – a border they mistakenly believed passed through Comapedrosa. Brigadier José Mellid de Bolaño, Antonio de Moner, and José López represented the Spanish side, while syndic Francesc Duran, subsyndic Joan Moles, and one Josep Povida represented the Andorran side; they were responsible for this achievement. It is one of the favorite peaks for climbers; although its ascent is not technically difficult, it is quite exhausting. At the foot of its slopes, we find several lakes and ponds, such as Estany Negre and Estany de les Truites.
