General Description
Route: A linear path that traverses various trails (GR11, and communal paths marked with yellow dots). The paths are well marked and we will pass by the Refuge of Pla de l'Estany. It is a high mountain route; we must be accustomed to moving in this type of terrain. Observations: An itinerary where we will find several water sources and will pass both up and down in front of the Refuge of Pla de l'Estany, we will always move in open areas and in full sun, and depending on the day, we may be surprised that the temperature can also be cooler than we thought once we reach the higher parts. Be cautious being at altitude and without vegetation; in summer, the heat and solar radiation can be strong or very strong, so it is necessary to protect yourself. Ascent: We will leave from the Comapedrosa parking lot and begin the route along the forest track until we reach the barrier; here we will enter right onto the path that will take us through the forest to the bordes of Coruvilla. From here we will take another stretch of track and follow the path of Rec d'Areny that will lead us to Pla de l'Estany, passing by the Refuge of Pla de l'Estany where we will find a water source. In the next stretch, we will be on high mountain paths outside the forest, where we will continually find plenty of water from the river that flows down from the Estanys de Montmantell. We will cross some stretches of large scree, and the final part before reaching the Collada de Montmantell consists of a terrain of fine stones that, due to its slope, can be slippery; once we arrive at the collada, we will turn right and face the final ridge up to the Pic de les Fonts, during this stretch the trail markers can disappear at times especially during the ascent. Descent: On the way down, we will follow the same path used to ascend; we can stop at the Refuge of Pla de l'Estany again if we want to collect water or rest.
