General Description
Route: A linear path that traverses different trails (GR11, GRP and communal paths marked with a yellow dot); in some sections of the final ascent, the terrain is quite broken. The paths are well marked throughout the route. Observations: The last stretch of the ascent to the peak is quite technical. Be cautious when at high altitude and without vegetation; in summer, the heat and solar radiation can be strong or very strong, so it is necessary to protect yourself. Ascent: In the parish of La Massana, we follow the Arinsal road until we reach the parking area of the Comapedrosa Valley Community Park, where we can leave our vehicle. We start walking along a forest track for approximately a mile and a half. We arrive at a signpost indicating the shelter and Alt del Comapedrosa. We gain elevation through the forest, and by following the GR11, we reach the guarded Comapedrosa shelter. We leave the shelter behind; the path is flat and very open for about three kilometers which then becomes demanding and has a constant slope. We follow the GR11 (white and red) markers and the yellow dots to avoid getting lost. We continue the ascent until we reach Estany Negre, which we will skirt; it is possible there might be snow, so it is advisable to bring crampons. We leave the lake and continue uphill through a scree slope, gathering strength; it is a technical section with a steep incline that will take us to the summit. Once at the top, at 2942 meters above sea level, at the roof of the Principality of Andorra, we can enjoy spectacular views. Descent: We will descend the same way we came; it's recommended to make a stop at the shelter to rest so that the descent doesn't feel too long.
