General Description
Route: Linear route that travels along different paths (GR11, and communal paths marked with a yellow dot). It is a high mountain route that has some fairly exposed sections and another very technical final section to reach the summit; you need to be careful on days when it might be wet to avoid slipping on the grass or on the final slopes of the Pic, where we will need to be accustomed to moving in this type of terrain. Observations: This itinerary features several water sources, and we will pass in front of the refuge of Pla de l'Estany both when going up and down. We will mostly move in open areas, in full sun, although depending on the day, once we reach the Estanys Forcats, the temperature might be cooler than we thought. Attention until early summer, the final area of the collada dels Estanys Forcats usually has hard snow during the final crossing. Be careful being at high altitude and without vegetation; in summer, the heat and solar radiation can be strong or very strong, so protection is necessary. Ascent: We will start from the Comapedrosa parking lot and begin the route by ascending the path that will take us to the bordas of Coruvilla, and from there we will pass by the Font Podrida and its col. We will see the Alt del Comapedrosa and its imposing channel with 900 meters of negative elevation, and the pla de l'Areny, which once crossed, tends to be marshy. We will arrive at the Refugio del Pla de l'Estany where we will find its water source. From this point onward, the path increasingly becomes alpine, and we will pass through some quite exposed areas; we must pay attention. Once we reach the Cabana dels Forcats, the terrain will be covered with boulders that we will not leave until we reach the Collada dels Estanys Forcats; now we will face the last and difficult climb up to Pic de Medacorba. Upon reaching the summit of the Pic, if we look south, we will have spectacular views of the Roca Entravessada, and if we look southwest, we will see the Estanys de Baiau. Descent: On the way down, we will follow the same path as we took to ascend; however, once past the Pla de l'Estany, we will divert and descend by the path of rec de l'Areny and then by the forest track. When we are almost down, we will take the right path that passes by the resting area of Riu Pollós, which is a bit cooler since it is sheltered by the forest, and where, just before finishing the route, we will find the last water source and an area where we can sit and rest.
