Pont de Sant Antoni
General Description
In La Massana, we have the Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge. A bridge that crosses over the Valira del Nord river. It has a single arch and has the profile of a donkey’s back. The bridge crosses over the Valira del Nord river and follows the royal road that connected the parish with Andorra la Vella. Its construction is of medieval origin and was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. Around the bridge stands the chapel of Sant Antoni de la Grella, originally Romanesque and restored in the 1940s. The Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge is a very simple structure, with only a lowered semi-circular arch, a completely paved roadway, and a small wall. It has a height of 5.55 meters and a length of 21.20 m. Finally, it should be noted that this bridge is dedicated to Sant Antoni Abat, the patron of "traginers", who were the men who transported goods down the river with their boats.
