La Farga Rossell, Iron Interpretation Centre
General Description
In La Massana, at the foot of the Valira del Nord river, the ancient Farga Rossell is located, one of the most important iron processing centers in the history of Andorra. It was, along with Farga Areny, the last to close, in 1876. Just 120 years later, when it was in a state of abandonment, a wave of recovery of Andorran identity signals led to the initiation of excavations for its restoration. This culminated in 2002 with the opening of the interpretation center, which is the starting point of the Iron Route. Currently, at Farga Rossell, visitors can witness the entire process of iron manufacturing and treatment until it is transformed into ingots for commercialization, as well as the evolution of the techniques used. The educational workshops include explanatory videos and the opportunity to see live the functioning of some elements of the forge, such as the furnace, the hydraulic hammer, or other typical tools.
